How Does Stress Affect a Person?
How does stress affect a person you ask? In many different ways. Stress is something that can affect a person's health, behavior, relationships and so much more. Many people think stress is just a feeling. I am "feeling" stressed you may tell yourself. But not only does stress make you feel bad, it can also affect every other aspect of your life.
Some people are not bothered by stress at all. They seem completely unaffected by stress and live a carefree life, while others may be horribly affected by even a small stressful event. Everyone reacts differently to stress, so your goal should be to not allow things to stress you out and choose not to let stress affect you. Some stress can even be good.
How can stress affect a person in a negative way? There are many different aspects of your life that can be affected by stress.
Relationships, family and social life
Stress can make you agitated and easier to snap or become angry. If you are constantly stressed, you may lash out at those around you. This can damage relationships with other people, including your family. Stress can also make you withdrawn and less likely to make new friends or spend time with the people you are closest to.
Behavior
Stress can cause big changes in your behavior. The changes can be different from person to person depending on how you deal with stress. You may become more angry or sad, or feel like you hate life or your job. You may start to eat more unhealthily at fast food restaurants and stop exercising as much as you should.
Stress may cause a change in your sleeping habits causing you to lose sleep or sleep more. Do you find yourself tossing and turning while your mind races about all of the things you have to do? Or maybe the stress causes you to sleep more and makes you feel sluggish and unwilling to get up and face your problems.
Stress can even cause you to grind your teeth, giving you dental problems and headaches.
Health
Stress, particularly chronic stress can cause terrible health problems. Also, stress affect a person by weakening your immune system reducing your body's ability to fight off illness and disease.
How can I stop stress from affecting me?There are things you can do when you feel stress building up. First, step back and examine the situation. Many times it’s not as bad as it may seem. Don't let stress effect you in a bad way. Realize that this moment will pass and you will not even be thinking about this problem a short time from now.
There are plenty of things you can do to relax and reduce your stress. Stress affects a person differently. The key is to arm yourself with the tools to not be negatively affected by stressful situations.
