Dealing With Stress at Work
Work is often one of the most stress inducing things in our lives, and dealing with stress at work can be difficult. There is the constant pressure to get things done, the necessity to complete tasks you dislike, conflicts with co-workers, constant interruptions… And don’t forget the desire to be anywhere but there. Those are just the daily stressors, there are also others like performance reviews that pop up.
There are things you can do to take control of your works situation. First of all, make sure you are in a job you like. If you aren’t, and it is not possible to get a different job, try getting involved in different departments or projects that are more interesting to you.
If there are constant interruptions at work delaying your ability to get important tasks done: Create “quiet time” for an hour our so at work to allow you to get important tasks done with out distractions. Choose an hour early in the morning or right after lunch, where you close you office door or go to a vacant conference room to get tasks done without people coming to bother you. Keep your email closed when trying to complete important task. That way there is not the distraction of email popping up every five minutes that you look at and respond to. Don’t think about work when at home. Try to avoid bringing your work stress into your home life. Your home life is supposed to be when you get to relax and enjoy, don’t let your work drag your home life down.
