Why does stress cause hives?
When you are stressed, your body releases all kinds of chemicals and hormones to deal with the situation. These chemicals signal your body to do all sorts of things and depending on your reaction to them can cause you to break out in hives from stress. Hives can suddenly appear and last only a few hours, or they may drag on and last for weeks or even longer.
Can stress cause hives with lasting effects?
No, not usually. As long as you don’t scratch them into scabs that will form into scars, there won’t be any permanent damage. Once you reduce your stress so your hives can go away, there won’t be any more problems.
What can I do about the stress hives now?
In the short term, you can take an oral anti-histamine or use topical steroid or anti-histamine creams on the hives. You don’t want to scratch the hives, or it could make them worst.
Try taking a relaxing oatmeal bath. The oatmeal will help with your itchy hives – and who doesn’t like a nice stress-reducing bath?
You should see a doctor if your hives are severe.
What can I do to prevent stress caused hives?
The best thing you can do for yourself (and your skin) in the long run is to relax. Get rid of that stress you are feeling.
